World Of Marin

Rules
1. Simple roleplay etiquette. Please refrain from Godmodding and Metagaming. You only know what your character knows/would know, and you do not have the power to force actions on anyone but yourself. You cannot change backstories of other characters or places to fit your own. Build your story around the world, not the world around your story.
__
2. Never be afraid to ask questions. If you are unsure of anything, please ask the OOC Chat for roleplay related issues and the lore-questions chat for anything you might have a question about story-wise.
__
3. Please use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation! It is an integral part of communication and, therefore, also of roleplay. Please keep your roleplay in the third person and in the past tense. Generally, use plain text for narration and dialogue. Use text effects like bold and italics for emphasis.
__
4. When writing in Marin, please start out every post with the name of your character and the location that you're in.
I.E.
Pirate King Bradai Maíth
Tonate Proper, The Southern Isles.
__
5. When interacting with others, please be a decent human being, even if your character is not. No racist or homophobic comments, no bullying, and no threats; furthermore, please avoid bringing real-world problems into the chat. Nothing about real world politics or religion. We'd rather you get heated about problems that exist in Marin instead. Please also keep our chat PG-13. We don't ERP, and we do not appreciate anyone acting like a creep in chat. We are, after all, here to get away from all of that.
__
6. Use common sense when writing for your character. The World of Marin prides itself on your ability to push the creative boundaries and do anything within the world. If it seems reasonable for your character, it is possible. For example: If you wanted to, you could take over a Kingdom. You could not, however, take over a Kingdom on your own, within the first week of your arrival. This chat rewards original and well thought out storytelling. Our goal is to write the most compelling story. Any discrepancies regarding what is “logical” can be solved in OOC or with staff.
__
7. Please keep author and character actions separate. While writing in the World of Marin, your character might do something unsavory to someone else or your character might be hurt or embarrassed in a way that you deem unfair. Be that as it may, it’s your character’s job to solve that problem, not yours. We hope to inspire future dickishness but ONLY within the boundaries of roleplay. Refer to rule 5 for any further questions regarding this.
__
8. This universe is human only, with very few exceptions. Writing anything other than a human is incredibly rare and is often reserved for trusted writers in the community.
__
9. This chat has an emphasis on playing nobility, knights, and royalty. Most of the main plots will revolve around characters doing important things on a national scale. While it is okay to write any kind of character (i.e. traveling bards, adventurers, traders, etc.), we recommend that, in order to stay involved in a meaningful way, you either write a House or heavily assist in running one. If you need help in getting involved, message @Sleem or check the needed canons list for inspiration!
__
10. No un @able nicknames.
__
11. We have a 18+ age limit. We generally recommend that you don't disclose your age as is, but anyone that discloses their age and is found to be younger than 18 will be banned without question. The content of this server is 18+. We do not condone erotic writing, and most of the writing follows subject matters not suitable for younger audiences.
__
12. Please don't advertise other servers in Marin. We have absolutely no problem with DM'ing a non-roleplay server to another member of our chat, but poaching, scalping, and public advertising are all violations of this rule.
__
13. Important characters can become Needed Canons. If you write a character integral to the central plots in Marin and you should leave and/or become inactive, Marin reserves the write to either kill them off or make them a Needed Canon for another writer to pick up. This helps prevent general stagnation and is done strictly on a case by case basis.
__
14. THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
a. All character deaths must have the consent of both parties. However, if you believe there is a good reason (within roleplay) to kill a character, speak to a member of staff, and depending on the particular circumstances, we may override consent. Don't be dicks to each other. Consent cannot be withdrawn. Attempting to initiate combat will AUTOMATICALLY VOID THE ATTACKER'S CONSENT.
b. All character combats will be "Honor" combat by default. Your character isn't superhuman. Even some of the best sword fighters get tired. If a party won't stop arguing about combat, a staff member will step in to ensure everything goes smoothly. Dice rolling is an absolute last resort.
c. Establish turn order. Have an organized, detail post, then the next person will continue, then so on and so forth. This shouldn’t need much elaboration. Keep it simple, stupid.
Thank you for reading the rules closely. Message the correct staff member the hidden rules word and begin to write your bio! Upon completion and acceptance of your character’s biography, you will gain full access to the World of Marin!
